First Live X Factor Show: Fashion Hit Or Miss?
Last weekend saw the first live X Factor show and it was no surprise that we got to see some of the best and worst fashion on TV. Like most years people have not stopped for breath and the X Factor is on everyone’s lips. There is the singing, the fighting, the backstabbing and most importantly the outfits. So let’s look back and decide who wore the best outfits and who should be sent home for their fashion faux pas?
So lets get stuck into the gruesome and sickening. The first mentioned has to be Storm Lee. First of all I have to say what a try hard failure he is, and it showed in his outfit. Ugly red hair that doesn’t look good on young or old, and it certainly does not work on a middle ageing old rocker! His silver trousers looked like something that belonged in space (not gonna lie… wish he would be taken to space and left there!) teamed with multi-coloured glitter paint across his face that looked like Diva Fever had puked all over him! And speaking of Diva Fever, they are next in my firing line. Purple and pink glitter suites, ripped off to reveal pink and green lycra shorts and purple and orange t-shirts - Mr. Motivator meets Louis’ wet dream!
The girl who is dividing the nation, Katie Waissel, sang ‘We are the Champions’ and she definitely was not a champion. Not only did she finish in the bottom three, but her stylist seriously failed her. Her look was Lady Gaga meets Primark. Her outfit looked like it was fashioned out of kitchen foil and the odd pink leggings and warrior helmet were just odd! Even writing this description makes my stomach turn. And as Aussie judge, Dannii said, ‘I don’t get tonight’s look’.
Now Aiden Grimshaw may have been one of the best performers of the night but his 19th century Victorian look was a little haunting. He wore a stiff collared shirt with tons of ruffles that reminded me of the Ghost of Christmas Past. Speaking of Victorian horror, let’s not forget Wagner. His black and purple velour suit should have been left in the wardrobe, instead made the guy resemble Count Dracula!
In contrast some of the best outfits we saw on Saturday belonged to John Adeleye, with a simple white shirt and trousers with a shiny grey slate jacket and in Simon’s words, ‘looked fantastic’. There was also ’style queen’ Rebecca Ferguson, as commented by Dannii. Dressed in a lace top tucked into a tight maxi skirt, she looked gorgeous, which was enhanced by her long hair extensions in a pony tail - although her earrings looked cheap, I’m sure I’ve seen them in Miss Selfridge before. Mary Byrne also looked fab. One of the eldest and more curvy women in the competition managed to look one of the best, in a black jumpsuit and black waterfall jacket, she looked like Catwoman with matching black smoky eyes and slicked back hair in a pony tail. Her voice was equally as stunning as she looked! Amazing!
Now I can’t write about X Factor without mentioning the judges. Everyone was waiting to see who would win in the fashion stakes, Cheryl or Dannii? Surprisingly they complemented each other well. Each wearing a lace dress, Cheryl in black and Dannii in white. Luckily there was a welcome injection of colour from Dannii’s bright red lips. This monochrome theme was carried into the Sunday night show with all of the singers wearing black or white, and this time there were no fashion disasters. But the best dressed of the weekend has to be fabulous host, Dermot O’Leary. He always manages to look dapper in his well tailored suits and simple ties.
Lets just see what disasters next week’s live shows bring - singing wise and on the fashion front!
