Various Types Of Car Speakers: Coaxial Speakers, Component Speaker Specs Plus Cone And Surround Substances
A variety of car speakers are presently being sold on the market. An expensive car speaker will not guarantee the best sound quality but choosing the right one or combination of them instead can produce a better sound that you are looking for. So learning a bit more about car speakers can save you some cash later on.
Coaxial Loudspeakers
The coaxial speaker is the most ordinarily used car speaker today. New vehicles are commonly fitted with this type of speaker. It is essentially a medium range cone woofer with one or more tweeter fitted on its zenith. The range of sound replication you can get from this type is from low to midrange being produced by the midwoofer and the tweeter produce the otherwise high frequency sound.
Cars of yesteryears were installed with speakers that only have midwoofers. But over the past two decades, car manufacturers were able to grasp the importance of a good sound system in their cars so they steadily installed their new vehicles with coaxial speakers. Some car makers of today are even boasting of a 6-piece speaker units installed in their cars but most of the time only the four midrange woofers are engaged and the two tweeters are disconnected. So be wary of that and not pay extra for a feature that is not available.
In general, coaxial speakers are called as 2-way speakers or 3-way, and so on. The so-called 2-way speaker is one woofer and a tweeter connected to it. In the same way a 3-way speaker is one woofer and two tweeters connected, and the addition of tweeters goes on for the preceding way-speakers. The principle behind adding tweeters is to have a balanced high and low frequency sounds.
Tweeters were devised to generate high frequency sounds (around 20-20000 Hertz) while woofers can produce low to midrange frequency sounds (15-10000 Hertz). In order to have a good quality sound output, the right mixture of low, midrange, and high frequency sounds must be generated by the woofers and tweeters. So it follows that if tweeters are excluded in the setup, the quality of sound produced will suffer.
Adding tweeters to your sound system will further enhance the quality of sound you have because they can reproduce complicated sounds. You will hear clearer and more defined sounds when tweeters are added to your audio setup.
Component Speaker Scheme
An average component system is composed of woofers, separate tweeters, and crossover filter systems. This kind of system works like the coaxial speaker setup but the only difference is the separate tweeters. The tweeters in turn will serve their purpose much like in the coaxial speaker setup but using the crossover filter system this time.
Improving the sound quality is the function of these crossover filters. It is able to do this by properly re-routing the audio signals to the various components and determining the sound frequencies that these components can handle. For example it would only route low frequency sounds to the midwoofers and only high frequency sounds to the tweeters. With the different audio signals properly routed to the right components, you will have a clearer sound quality output.
However, component systems are more costly because it has more components than coaxial speaker systems. Furthermore, if you are looking for a three or more way component system it is likely that you will not find any due to the fact that it is not needed because crossover filters took away their purpose.
Cone and Surround Construction
The stuff used to build the woofers and tweeters are of prime factor which will eventually determine their life span. The type of materials used will definitely affect the quality of sound produced. Dense cones like glass fibers and Kevlar?s are apt to create improved audio quality than lighter materials like paper and cloth. Denser cones are much more appropriate for heavy sound outputs applications.
The surround substance also determines the durability of the speakers akin to cone substance. Since the cones must move back and forth as it generate sound, the surround substance must be made of tough but stretchable materials. In general just like the cone construction, the speaker will last longer when the substance used are thicker.
