Mormonism and The Mormon Church - Multiple Gods?

In respect to this question the Mormons believe that because the Bible says that we will become joint heirs with Christ and become like him that this is where others will become Gods. They believe that yes that Mormons can become Gods but it has a limited factor to it and this is in the sense that they can be Gods representatives or servants. They again will refer to the Bible using the word God in plural several times.

Their doctrine will say that the true Christians being the Mormons are here for a very holy purpose. They will refer to first Corinthians where Paul talks about many Gods but not ones that are to be worshiped again they will stand on specific verses they will rely heavily on their support. Being true Christians based on the writings of what have been classed as historical Christians they will take this section of their writings in support of their plea of being true Christians.

One aspect that has become quite prominent in the teaching of the Mormons and their explanation of Christianity is that Judaism and Christianity have become closely linked going back many years. If one would take a closer look at it this is referring to theosis. This is based on the theory that or idea that man can become in a God like state.

The reference to this will be going as far back as to Adam and the fruit from the tree of knowledge speculating that Adam went out and did this and then he became as God. Another example that the Mormons will use is Enoch descended into heaven without even experiencing death.

It would seem that the Mormons will depend on almost every Christian writing that is in existence just about for support of their doctrine in reference to areas of these writings that pertain to their doctrine as far as becoming Gods. They do admit however that it is complex part of their doctrine and great care must be taken on how it is interpreted. Even reference to the Roman Catholic studies in respect to this doctrine is something that the Mormons will rely on as well if it happens to be supportive or construed to mean what the Mormons believe.

10 Of The Most Bizarre Mormon Beliefs - Mormonism LDS Beliefs

While most religious traditions have beliefs that are considered bizarre by those outside that faith, Mormons seem to have the most beliefs that are routinely rejected by non-Mormons because of their oddness or their ability to be disproved. Here is a countdown of 10 of the most unusual Mormon beliefs.

10. The earth is 7,000 years old. There is no official statement by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints about the age of the earth, but many Mormons (and many Christians of some sects) believe that the age of the earth is on the order of thousands of years rather than billions calculated by widely accepted scientific methods.

9. Mars and Venus have dry rivers. The dry rivers on Mars and Venus were the source of the flowing rivers on earth. The theory is that the dry rivers on Mars and Venus “match” the rivers on Earth and that proves that all three planets were organized from the same source.

8. Dinosaur bones come from other planets. LDS Church Institute instructors teach that fossilized dinosaur bones are from creatures that lived on other worlds that were destroyed in the creation of the earth.

7. Mormon scripture teaches that Cain, who killed his brother Abel, was so evil that God “cursed” him with black skin, thus creating the African race. In a related belief, though the LDS church has deemed any worthy male to be part of the priesthood, black males were not recognized in this capacity until 1978.

6. In cases of the sin of murder, the murder of the sinner and the mixing of his blood with the earth bring forgiveness. In 1977 after the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty, Gary Gilmore chose to be executed by firing squad in Utah due to his belief in blood atonement.

5. In 1960, The Prophet Spencer W. Kimball taught that when Native Americans become Mormons their skin turns white. He said “The [Indian] children in the home placement program in Utah are often lighter than their brothers and sisters in the hogans on the reservation.”

4. Also on the subject of Native Americans, the preface to the Book of Mormon from 1981 indicates that descendents of Lehi are a “remnant of the House of Israel” and were ancestors to American Indians. However, the DNA of Native Americans indicates an Asian origin.

3. When a marriage is sealed in the Temple, a husband can know his wife’s celestial name, but she cannot know his. This is so that if he so chooses, he can resurrect her after her death by calling her celestial name.

2. Mormons believe that after the resurrection, Jesus visited America and there he performed miracles and taught.

1. Kolub is a star mentioned in the Book of Abraham as being closest to the throne of God. The Book of Abraham is canonized by the LDS church, Mormon fundamentalist organizations, and other LDS sects. Kolub inspired “Kobol” in Mormon Glen A. Larson’s Battlestar Galactica universe.

The Social Importance of Candles

Slate and Artsmith - The candle is a very powerful symbol in human consciousness. There is something about that tiny point of light, flickering, existing and resisting a world that is dark and empty, which speaks to the deepest part of the human soul. This is one of the reasons that candles have such a profound significance in so many disparate religions throughout the world.

Judaism

The candle is a powerful symbol in Judaism, and one is lit every Friday night to celebrate the beginning of the weekly Sabbath. On Saturday evening, a Havdalah candle is lit to mark the end of the Sabbath. Candles are also used in the Chanukah ceremony, where a candle is lit every evening for eight nights, to commemorate the candle which miraculously burned for eight days, when the Jews recovered their temple from the Greek / Persian Invaders. For the Jewish people, the candles flame represents the ever burning flame of the divine being.

In Judaism a candle is also used to commemorate those who have passed away, and they are often lit to commemorate a loved one, or those who died tragically, such as in the holocaust.

Christianity

In Christianity the candle is used for both religious and decorative purposes. In its decorative function, it is a representation of the Creators light, or specifically the light of Jesus. For this reason you will often find a candle lit and placed on an alter. Ritually, candles are often lit and placed in front of pictures of icons in the orthodox tradition. A votive candle may also be lit to accompany prayer. Some churches also use a Paschal candle which represents Jesus, and is only lit on Easter and other very special occasions.

Buddhism

In Buddhism, candles are often placed in front of statues of the Buddah along with food or drink as a sign of respect. Symbolically they represent the light of the Buddah’s teaching and the enlightenment they added to the world.

Hinduism

In the Hindu tradition a diya, or clay lamp, is a very important part of any religious ritual. The lamp holds the candle during the ceremony, and acts as a symbol of prosperity and enlightenment. Every year they also celebrate Diwalli which is also known as the festival of light. On this holiday lamps are lit to symbolize life and hope and the conquest of good over evil.

The symbolic nature of a candle gives it significance in many of the world’s major religions. Whether it symbolizes the supreme creator, or the hope of mankind, its flickering light is an inspiration to many who behold its glow.

Don’t Bypass Protection Against Identity Theft

The crime of identity theft and all protection against identity theft has changed over the years, but its a threat that has lingered since one person had the opportunity to benefit from someone else’s hard work. Back in the day, all one had to do to steal someone’s identity was put on a convincing disguise. Now, criminals have to be a bit more crafty to succeed.

The Internet is the criminal’s new wonderland, and your credit cards and accounts are theirs for the taking. Once your identity has been stolen, numerous problems can throw your life into disarray. Before you know it, you could be in debt and sometimes worse situations if you don’t catch them in time.

Losing Time

If you are able to catch identity theft in the early stages, you might be able to stop any fraudulent payments before your accounts have been hurt. The good news is that, in this case, you’ve saved your money, but there’s still some bad news.

First of all, after freezing your account, you won’t be able to access your money for a number of days. Second, you’ll have to change all your vital numbers so that anyone trying to use your information will be refused. Though you’re technically only losing time, the frustration alone that is caused is still far from pleasant - and this is the smallest amount of trouble that identity theft can possible cause.

Low Charges To Your Accounts

When protection against identity theft fails, most people experience this category of offense. Their bank accounts and credit cards are compromised, and a selection of seemingly random transactions appear on their statements. The bank will probably be able to determine which are authentic and which aren’t, but you’ll still have to go through the trouble of having to change your numbers. Even then, you’re probably going to be getting letters that your accounts are experiencing suspicious activity.

Victims number in the millions, and the amount of money lost is in the hundreds of thousands.

Major Financial Issues And Potential Lending Problems

The last few categories might have seemed frustrating and worrisome, but they are nothing when compared to this or the next stage. Criminals can look up all your bank numbers and use them before you even know what hit you. It’s not unheard of for criminals to take out a loan. This disappointing result causes permanent trouble that can damage your credit score.

Even if it wasn’t really you doing the loaning, you’ll still be held accountable and once your credit score is damaged, it stays damaged because your account is still unreliable.

Illegality

The worst of all these options is without a doubt using your money to finance illegal immigrant runs, drug trafficking, and more. These thefts are more personal, because they don’t just affect your finances, but they affect who you are as a person and your status as a citizen who stays on the right side of the law. They can even wreak havoc on your medical files as new claims are made that you have never been to.

If your identity is stolen in spite of any protection against identity theft you may have, make sure to take care of it as quickly as possible. Protect yourself, use the Internet safely and be careful in the real world.

Are you worrying about a lost security card or ID card number theft? Worrying will not solve any problems — action does. You will find plenty services offering protection against identity theft. Make sure you select one that is from a trusted web site with a track history of preventing ID theft for an optimal outcome.

General Research Methods: Current Article Guys Should Read!

Lets try something - I say “General Information” and you say the first thing that pops in your head. Ok, what popped in your head? I am guessing something without a real specific subject, right? Well, that is how research starts for most subjects. If you were looking for some information that was between 5 or 10 decades ago where would you possibly start looking? The library maybe?

Plus, it is kinda fun to go through those old books that most libraries have and just smell how old they really are! It is fun turning the pages of old books that are sometimes 50 or 100 years old looking for rare information on whatever subject you may be looking for.

But, lets get down to the best tools you can use and that is the information super highway which is the internet. It could easily take you 200 lifetimes and you still would not be able to put a dent into all of the information that is on the net now and is coming on the net daily. Start trying to find information on what you are searching for at public domain sites and government sites. Also, try some of the many other specific search engines that could help you that are on your topic as well.

Do you have any idea what type of info your trying to uncover? Like the format of the information? Some want MP3’s or PDF’s. Yet others want Doc files or Power Point Presentations or maybe an excel spreadsheet? There are also maps, guides, directories and all of them are more then likely on your subject your attempting to locate.

So, what I am getting at really is you need a game plan to get research done really. You need to map out exactly what it is you are trying to find, what format you want it in like I outlined above. You need to know what you want to do with the information once you do find it.

I know this all sounds a bit overwhelming but research can be at times. That is why I started this out by talking about general information. People start out just looking for general information and then eventually drill it down to the point of something very specific, a niche if you will.

Now, once you have drilled down to this very specific Niche such as “how to feed a purple goldfish on the weekend” you will then know it is a niche and you are doing your work correctly.

I bet the thought has crossed your mind about who the heck am I, exactly? I have been in one form or another doing this type of research for approx. 15 years give or take a year. I find it rewards and fascinating how I am able to be find something that people would not even try to find. This is my passion and I hope you enjoy it as well. The above should set you on the right course to drill down and maybe find what your looking for. I wish you the best of luck on your quest for knowledge.
